I stopped by the local "junk" dealer's place today to pick up a couple of Lincoln wheels for my 53. While looking around, I came across a tailgate from a stepside Ford that measures 21" tall by 55" wide. This tailgate is in mint condition, he said he found it in the rafters of a barn. What does it fit?
I'll try to stop by tomorrow and get a pic.
Jeff
I know that 1948 - 1952 tailgates were script someone here will be able to tell us when the change to block lettering occured. By the width I would also say it is an f2 or f3 most of the f1 variety have a 6 foot bed that is 48" wide.
I just recently bought a tailgate with the same dimensions. I took it off a 49 F-3, thinking it would fit my 49 F-1. I have pics of it in my gallery. https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...&albumid=22976
If you go back in the posts far enough you will find one by me titled tailgate.
It wasn't to long ago so it shouldn't be to far back.
Their is a good deal of imput on what this will fit and what year in that post. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=509523

I believe this tailgate is from a 48-50 F-2 or F-3. I have the same tailgate. Bought it thinking it would work for my '55 F100. I like the script in the middle, but it just might be too wide and tall to work on my bed. I may try and adapt it, but new repro's are under $300.00.
