I have a 1986 ford Ranger with a factory mitsubishi 2.3 turbo diesel. i need the blow off (or overboost) valve that mounts on the intake manifold. does anyone know of parts source for these engines?
Good luck, parts for the old diesels are EXTREMELY hard to find. Keep an eye on eBay. You can hit up the local boneyards, but don't expect much of anything. I don't even know of anyone else on here with one of them, sadly.
thanks i'm hoping someone from australia, new zealand or the uk might see my post and give me some info on parts. ive been told these engines were very popular in what we call the montero over here which mitsubishi called both the pujero and shogun in other countries.
While I'm here in Korea I'll look... (or try). The Galloper/Exceed (Hyundai) supposedly has a similar motor.
But I think I'll only find 2.5L and 2.8L parts...maybe they'll interchange?
Edit!... Geo, do you know if the 2.3L TD Mitsubishi pick-up truck part will work?

Brazil might be another option. We have machinery installed down there and my serviceguy (a Cummins diesel diehard) told me that they currently sell new Rangers down there with a 4 cylinder PowerStroke.
It's entirely possible that a diesel shop would be able to get parts. I don't know how much money you have at your disposal, but I would advise you check specialized sources such as these as well. I have no idea who makes these turbos, but most good diesel shops (not your local Ford dealer) handle parts for several different brands of turbos. A good place to try calling is Diesel Specialities in Estherville Iowa, if you'd like I can get you the number. They deal with older/more obscure diesel parts. Just a simple suggestion.
thanks for the advice all, I found a forum for the mitsubishi Pujero(Montero) in the UK and Australia. this vehicle came with the same motor. I'm going to try to get some info from them about how to trouble shoot it. Its a shame that they didn't sell more of these trucks. the truck cranks and runs great with no blowby from the crankcase it just has an issue with either the "blow-off valve" or the the wastegate actuator. my brother bought the truck used when it was only three months old and it only has 125,000 original miles. he let it sit for the last five years and his only condition when he gave it to me was that i give him first chance if i decide to get rid of it and if i can't get it running i have to give it back.
