Another thing, not to be a negative Nancy here, but there are a LOT of new companies making unique 4x4 parts right now. That's really good news for us and really cool for parts. But what guarantee do we have that they'll be around in 10 years, 5 years or even next year? It would really suck to invest that much money and then find out they couldn't pay the bills and closed shop.
Very true. The same sort of thing happens in many industries, like the Paintball industry for example. Its usually always best to go with a company that has been around a while, or a company that deals in many diffrent industries, like Dana.
Id take a Dynatrac ProRock 60 with Dedenbear knuckles and inner C's, converted to king pins, with Longfield 300M CV axles, Yukon gearset, and an ARB over that thing, because its all proven reliability. And that other axle, the one that looks like an ox yolk, would never be under my truck. Reminds me of a welded together TTB setup.lol
I love the clearance on those, but I've been looking at them and mogs for awhile now, and I'm not convinced they'll hold up to 52"+ tires and jumps.......which is my plan for the future. That pretty much a recipe for snapping the portal boxes right off.

i hate to say it pro, but i am un-aware of anything that'll hold up to that! maybe a set of rockies with chromo shafts that have been cryo frozen or some crazy combo like that, lol. esp for a truck as heavy as yours... what was the curb weight of that thing last you checked?
I'm only at 6k. Thats pretty damn trim with all the reinforcing I've done, the 44"s and steel wheels. Thats the thing, you truss a rockwell and run the chromo shafts your in pretty damn good shape...its typically not ever the knuckles that are cutting loose on them, but even those you can plate. As far as mogs go the 1300u's are the ones that are the bomb but like any of the "normal" portal axles, they're great for static loads (i.e. troop/supply movement) but not so great for shock loads (minor jumps). No point in buying those bling axles if they're gonna hold you back from jumping your truck

By the time you spend all your money on that truck you probly coulda just bought a used monster truck cheaper.
Or just find a set of axles that they use, what do they use anyway. I want to know.
they use ZF axles, and Pro, i know an engineer that works for ZF, hes had prototypes in his garage before so he could work at home, a set could "disapear"

Bigfoot was really the only big name monster truck to use ZF's. I talked to several guys at ZF just a few months back and they no longer manufacture the axles that Bigfoot was using. Apparently Bigfoot Inc had to do a lot of modification on the ZF axles they used also, just to make them work under the trucks.
What most of the trucks are using is Clark or Pettibone axles with Clark planetaries. They like to stick to stuff that replacement parts are plentiful for.
Just to add a little to the monster truck tech, Tom Meents (maximum distruction) is also running ZF axles, (even lighter version than Bigfoot) with a lot of reinforcement, & the most comon monster truck diff is constructed using rockwell F-106 hounsings with clark planeteries, the axle shafts are custom built units, easily obtained from SCS gear,
ivan, last time we went through st louis, we peaked into the bigfoot shop and from what i could see every one of the truck in there had zfs under them, so they must be somewhat gettable.

I know they still use them but they're all old axles. Find me a part number where I can order them from ZF. Pro and I have been trying for a while now. According to ZF Bigfoot hasn't purchased an axle from them in about 5 years and the model they were buying before isn't being made anymore. I assume you could get any ZF axle and fiddle with it to make it work for your application but there's probably a good reason that Bigfoot chose what they did and modified it the way they did.
Interesting info about Mentz, especially considering all the carnage his axles go through at the finals each year. He's constantly snapping wheels off but I can't tell if it's the knuckle itself giving out or if he's sheering spindle bolts.
