I need help with a radiator problem.

Hey guys,

My name is Brannon today i was helping my friend change his oil pan gasket and he has a 74 F-100 we were jacking up the engine and he didnt notice that the jack was on the drivers side radiator line that comes out of the radiator so.... the radiator started leaking where the line goes in to the radiator. Now i was wondering if we need to replace the whole radiator or if there is a cement bond or something we can use. If you guys have had good experiances with anything please tell us. Thanks alot, Brannon

PS. The only reason im posting in this forum is because i have a 66' F-100 and you guys have helped me out alot.

Brannon, If the radiator is that rotton, it needs to be replaced. Take it to a rad. shop for a proper inspection.

I assume you are talking about the transmission lines running to the lower tank of the radiator. If the threaded bung cracked, take it to a radiator shop and have it repaired. Both the water and the oil sections will be under pressure so JB Weld or similar repairs will not hold. The shop can do a much better repair at a reasonable cost.

I agree with Krosati about taking it to a repair shop.

If you can not afford that, take the radiator out of the truck. Tip it upside down. Where it has cracked, most likely the fitting ripped out of the tank under the jack pressure, sand/file down to bare shiny metal. THEN push both pieces back together and solder it with a very hot big hand held iron with lead based solder (still available at Radio Shack). Run a 7 psi cap on the radiator. Carry extra water and duct tape.

This will most likely get you by until you can afford a proper repair$.

If you broke an automatic tranmission line fitting, do not bother with the repair. A temporary repair might cost you the whole transmission and it is not worth the chance.
