97 Automatic. Only 67K
When I accelerate from the stop light the truck puts out a tremendous amount of black smoke. It is embarrasing. The acceleration is poor. Also when I have the overdrive engaged. In town driving it will buck and jerk. I believe the two problems are related but I don't know what to do? Is it dirty injectors? Will running injector cleaner through them work or do I need to take it in to the shop?
I might mention that the truck just came from California and I am almost a mile high in Denver. Should something be adjusted for the altitude here?
sounds like only 4 is firing. i hear guys talk about this happening. cant tell you what is happening but some one will. ohh also check your oil level.

sound like fuel but no air. check your air filter and intake conections for a serious leak. Are there any exhaust leaks on this truck? Also check the MAP sensor line running from the intake in the valley of the engine to the sensor on the heater box. its like a 3/8 rubber hose.
exhaust back pressure valve. located on the turbo right before the downpipe. its a butterfly valve in the exhaust outlet of the turbo used in cold weather to aid in faster heating of the engine. an otherwise useless thing that really doesn't help my truck warm up faster and makes a very loud jet plane sound when i am starting my truck in cold weather. It is however used by some as an exhuast brake when wired up to a switch.
it is actuated by oil pressure that is controlled by an electric valve. sometimes it get crusted by soot and sticks closed.
