Exclamation Heater Core Help!

I have an issue with my 97 F150 4.6 V8. This past winter i had a faint odor of antifreeze coming through my heater vents, a friend of mine told me it could be a leak in my heater core. so he suggested a stop leak additive called liquid alluminium(spelling?). any way... that seemed to work for a while, untill this past week i started smelling it through my AC vent... is this my heater core, or am i looking at a bigger problem. if it is my heater core, can someone who is modreately mechanically inclined like myself tell me if it is doable and how long it may take... if not my heater core, what could it be... all info is greately appreciated.

If you do a search in this and the Expedition forums you can find directions. I did it a few yrs ago. The entire dash has to come out to get access to the heater core. Took about 9.5 hrs. In addition to the heater core, get some weather stripping about 2 in wide.

reallistically plan a whole day about 6-8 hours taking your time. you have to take dash completely out and thenyou have to seperate the heater case. youmay want to put aground strap on it to help prevent future failures

just finished the core on my 97 f150 took the best part of the weekend 12-15 hrs. I saw no need to discharge the A/C system but did cause the book said to. (no A/C lines are in the way of removing the heater core, Also the quick disconnect lines on the core are in no way quick...ending up cutting one and removing the other with the core. ). Part was only $45.00
