Hi i have a 1995 PSD . sometimes mostly when the weather is hot ,my truck has a loss of power. it seems almost like the tranny is slipping ,the rpm go up but you don't pick up speed ,but i don't think it is the tranny ,when it does this there is alot of nosie i can't tell if its coming from the motor or tranny ,could there be a problem with my turbo ? this only happens some days other days everything is fine any ideas ?
Probably your tranny, but you should post a little more information. Auto or standard? Do you have a tranny temp gauge?
Just a guess but if the RPM's go up and the truck doesn't move, the tranny would be my first suspect, or the clutch if you have a stick-shift. Is it worse under a load? I don't think you would build the RPM's if it was related to the motor.
Have you inspected the tranny fluid? (If it's an auto).
Either way if there's a noise you should check into it further before more damage occurs.
I agree. If the rpm's go up and speed doesn't increase, the tranny is slipping. When was the last time the tranny fluid was changed? If you're not a mechanic, take the truck to one for a test drive before the tranny grenades on the road.
Umm yes it is an auto .. tranny fluid seems fine .. did take it to a mechanic but it wasn't acting up when he drove it . But he did mention that he thought the tranny was ok and that when there is a power loss . it usally is turbo related .tranny shifts perfect. but it does seem like the tranny to me ... but strange that it would only slip sometimes ? and no i do not have a tranny temp gauge.
