My truck was getting hard to start, and the code reader told me glow plug. So about two weeks ago I replaced all 8 glow plugs and the problem was solved. Truck started better than it ever had. Well, the last few days it started to get hard to start again. Check Engine light never came on this time. Friday morning I went out at 4:30 to go to work and it just didn't happen. I got a few very weak cranks and that was all. My batteries are only a month old and tested great, but I hooked up another vehicle with jumpers to try to get more juice. Nothing at all. Friend of mine said on his 97 soon after he changed glow plugs his glow plug relay went out. So I just put a new relay on and still nothing. The big terminal on the relay, (one that only has power when key is on), got pretty hot when I went to test it. Maybe I just had the key turned on too long? Should this side of the relay be getting hot like this? Any ideas why my truck won't even turn over? Could the starter have taken a dump? Please help, I need to go to work tomarrow!! Thanks.
Sounds like your starter may be headed south. You should remove it and have it tested, unless you can perform an Amp draw test in the truck. You can get an Amp tester at AutoZone or others. You just lay it on a battery cable and roll it over. Normal is 230-630 amps.

Thanks for the replies..... After I had poted today, I thought about getting the starter tested. Took it off and went to Autozone. Starter FAILED!!!! Purchased a new one and will put it on after I finish eating lunch. I'll post my results.
