No Strength, Need Power!
I'm 17 and just buying a 65 Ford f-100, straight 6 automatic custom cab. anyways, i'm not that strong and was thinking about maybe puting in power sterring and/or power brakes, is this possible? if so how hard is it to do and about how much will it cost me?
thx
Joel
It can be done and therre are many articles on it here in this forum. I would start by doing a search for the subject first.
I am getting ready to do a power disc brake conversion on my 65 F100 and have used the article in the tech area for support and it has been great. I only have to buy the brake pads and the master cylinder and than I will do the install. So far it has cost me about $400.00, that is cheap when you compare to a after market kit that starts at $700. And all parts used are Ford parts and readily available.
Oh and welcome aboard..

As for power steering, we need to know a little more.
What sized engine is it?
A 300 probably has enough power to handle both the automatic and the power steering, but a smaller engine may not.
You may find it easier to upgrade the steering linkages, lubricate all joints, and make sure your tires are good for travel. You would be surprised at how much a difference it makes!
Now, power brakes and power disc brakes are another story. Both of those are easy good safety upgrades, and relatively cheap. You can search this forum for tons of information how to do it, and how to do it so that it may even pay for itself.
Good luck, and post back often.
Again, Welcome!

Welcome to FTE ISO, I was working on one of my project cars at 17 myself. fast forward a few years, and a few more after that, and still a few and here I am working on a slick.
You will be able to find loads of info on here along with posting questions of your own and getting all the info you need, as well as friends!
Have fun, and dont back down!
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I installed my power brakes for just a hair over $200 with aftermarket parts. The master from CPP only costs $45 and the new tubing. The expensive part is ordering their linkage kit that you can source from NAPA or even the big orange home supply store. They both carry the threaded 3/8 round stock, 3 inch long (length) nut, and rodend. I bought my chrome 7 inch dual vacum booster off ebay. So you have options available... The tech article on this site is very good, so research it and pull what you can then ask questions if you don't understand. There is a ton of very knowledgable people on here.
and the 61-67 forum.I think you have a transplant already. Someone's book may say different but I am pretty sure the only auto power 65's were powered by 352 V8s.
As suggested, search our forums, the power brake/steering subject has been covered hundreds of times.

Also have 65 F100 with upgrades mentioned. There is an article in the FTE 'articles/spec's forum in the brake section on 65-72 disc. brakes. As mentioned, lots of info if you run a search, suggest narrow field to this forum under disc brake upgrade, or topics simular. Member posted the following site may find informative http://www.mongrelmotorsports.homest...f100discs.html . Personally found the power steering upgrade most rewarding, however, think will find more involved. With the disc brake upgrade, suggest saving cost of purchasing a salvaged master cyliinder new replacements cost around $45, and you know what you got. I did not go with modifying the brake switch, will get varing opinions, I used same brake pressure switch and modified the proportion valve.

Actually, I used to be a Chevy man, had a 63, 67, 72, 90 and I always thought that there were a lot more old Chevy's out there. Then I seen the light, there are more old Ford's trucks out there than you can shake a chevy at!
