I have 84 f150. There is a bunch of rust around the rear wheel well (of course). So I'm going to cut it out. I want bushwacker cutout flares but cant't afford them yet so I was going to cut it now and put edge guard on it and then come back and install the flares. Does anyone know how the wheel wells need t be cut?
I'm not sure if this will answer your question but here is what I think you are asking for.
Cut the wheel wells with an electric reciprocating saw. Before you starte cutting, measure. Double check that measurement, then check it again. It is also probably a good idea to tape off the area that will be cut to minimize any paint flaking.
Don't forget to put something on the cut edge to keep your rust problems at bay, such as a sealant or paint.
You need to have the cutout flares to use as a template for the cut. I'd wait until you can afford them. You can buy them one pair at a time. You also want to try and save the portion you cut out for installing the flares. I can't quite explain it but you'll need it for the flare installation if you do it the way Bushwacker recommends.
