E350 Cooling System???

This one has me stumped.

I have an 88 E350 with a 460 that holds 28 quarts of coolant.

I also have an 89 E350 with a 460 that won't take more than 16 quarts no matter what I do.

Both run fine and do not overheat but this seems really strange to me.

Does anyone know if there is a difference in the specs for these model years?

It could be that the 89' has a rear heater, those rear heaters could add some but not the amount your saying. I'm guessing that you probally are not fully draining the coolant on the 89' and thats why it's not taking as much make up coolant. I can't see that there would be that much difference in coolant capacities otherwise. Do both vehicles have the same size of radiator? that might account for the difference somewhat.
