i have a 65 f100 with a 390 and every time i press on the gas it dies i just rebuilt the carb andreplaced the timing chain anyone know whats wrong with it?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Dec-02 AT 04:01 PM (EST)]How does it die? Does it just cut clean or does it try up stummbles and dies?
If you easy on the gas slow will it pick up rpm's? If so you need to adjust you acelerator pump. With the truck off remove the air cleaner, now put on saftey glasses and open the choke with a finger and look down the carb you should see a small nozzle just above the restiction. Next work the gas pedal linkage with the other hand you should see a squirt of gass come from the nozzle. If not or it comes in late thats you problem. Fords used a nice tuneable set up as you can change the amount of the shoot and the duration by changing the metal rod in to other holes. Check the pamplet that came with the rebuild kit.
my book list the pump rod installed in inboard hole on the pump lever and in hole #3 on the throttle shaft (thrid up from shaft)
