windstar downshifting while driving
My 1998 windstar as started downshifting while driving on the highway. Everything is fine and all of a suden it downshifts. It revs at about 3500 rpm at 75KM/h. If the van is stoped for a period of time (ignition off) it seems to reset itself and is OK for about 5 Mins. of driving. Any ideas on the problem?

ok so at about 45 you're experiencing a shift to second? I'd say it's a vacuum error, or the speed sensor is out. The tranny isn't getting the info it needs to know when to shift. Check your vacuum and electrical lines, if all ok then I'd suspect the speed sensor. Sorry somebody else is gonna need to tell you where it is.

I'm glad to see it's fixed. That part is called a TRS (Transmission Range Sensor,) and what you saw was the classic symptoms of a dying TRS.
