Heat Issue ?

i ve noticed somtimes my center floor pan over the tranny is warm and other times its not. i have the E4OD with cooler for towing.my tranny fluid is getting to the time to change but it isnt in bad condition.(i do notice bubbles in it when i check it,which some say is normal, others say its not,so i dont know about that) still nice and red and not burnt. truck has 190k on it as does the tranny.shifts fine also.

is this normal ? the odd part is when i noticed it its not from driving hard. tires are 31" stock gearing. 96 xlt with 5.8 tow package.

thanks.

Bubbles in the tranny fluid are usually indicative of a loss in viscosity when the fluid does heat up. Since you say its getting to be time for the fluid change the bubbles are probably just telling you what you already know. As for the heat, worry if the shifting gets sloppy or harder than usual in conjunction with the heat. This is a sign of a possible solenoid failure and torque converter deterioration.

I agree with Greystreak.

Best money you could spend right now is on two things. First, go to Summit and order an external inline tranny filter. Secondly, order a tranny temperature gauge so you know what the temerature really is. You might want to buy a larger tranny cooler while your at it. The stock ones (if thats what you have) are way too small for my liking.

If money allows do a flush, but you would probably get by with a simple re-fill.

I would never get mine flushed, from what i've heard all it does is break all the gunk loose from the casing and and force it through the valvebody where it plugs everything up and causes miss shifts and slippage. I'm planning on upgrading my tranny cooler to one made by B&M that has a fan on it that moves 500 CFM of air. The stock cooler doesn't do much good when the truck is moving slow in 4lo where the transmission gets hottest, but with the fan it will allways be covered.

You could always take the plug out of the torque converter and drain it too. I just did the out with the old / in with the new when I changed the fluid in my 89 last year. No flushing.

I've got a 22 year old C6 that has never been rebuilt and shifts as smooth as butter, and has zero slips. Its been flushed at regulat intervals. If youve heard of people having tranny issues after a flush, their transmissions were on their way out anyways. Their fault for not taking care of their trannys by making sure it has nice red fluid in it at all times.

$175 sounds about right.
