Hello all,
Just a question in general about towing:
I've always heard that you should remove the drive shaft from a vehicle in tow (tow dolly or tow bar)to prevent damage to the transmission. Is this the case?
technique but is rather time consuming if you are going to be traveling a lot and will be hitching and unhitching the car often. You can also use a dolly to raise the drive wheels off the ground. Or you can tow a manual shift car, they aren’t as sensitive to having the internal parts driven from the wrong direction as automatics are.
I think you can also get locking hubs for many vehicles. It would be similar to the hubs on a four wheel drive. When the car is in tow, you unlock the hubs and the wheels turn freely. When you are driving the car you lock the hubs to let the power get to the wheels.
