New 7.3 How do u like yours??

I bought my first diesel today and its a 7.3! I bought a 2002 superduty 250 and how do you like your 7.3's??? Wuts the gas mileage on it?? Power and upgrades i can do, It already has a Air Intake system on it and some fancy stainless tubing, IM new to diesels ive had v8's all my life lol. Anything i should look for in maintaining it, I really like the pods, but do u have to drill into the intake and all that scarry stuff?? Comments welcome please help. Thanks

i hate to be a broken record and be cold about it, but maybe you dont know, so im going to tell ya. 100% of what you wanted to know can be found by searching. it is the function in the dark blue bar that goes across the near-top of the page. third from right. scroll over it, click on "advanced search" and scroll down to pick posts only from the 1999.5-2003 7.3 forum. all of us here love our trucks, all as much as each other, but some decide to "show more" than others.

i have a pretty modded motor on stock injectors and internals for that matter, and i have a heavy foot and get 14-15mpg. sure i could go easy on the loud pedal and get 18+, but who wants to drive a mean sounding and looking truck around with a size 5 shoe on? i have a 14 for a reason..

oh and BTW welcome to FTE as an owner of the best truck on the road today. you can decide to be an "owner" or an "enthusiast". this is a place for enthusiasts.

Welll put strokin. while these massive beast like to roar they do require occasional TLC. treat her good and you will have a reliable truck for many years.

1. Get a spare CPS and put it in the glove box with a 10mm socket (Do a search for CPS and you will see why) ** and make strokin happy

2. GoTo the User CP button and complete a signature with truck details it will help people here help you.

Once again Welcome

You drill into the exhaust for the pyro pod If you're looking to catch the PMS bug, get gauges first then set your browser to dp-tuner.com and order yourself a wicked chip and let the $$$ spending begin!

BTW, I love my 7.3 PSD & I get 17-18 MPG (unloaded) on the freeway and around 13-14 MPG around town.

These guys are right, I was a little shy about a few things when it came down to my mule. But if your patient and use the search function you will find detailed information and instruction on some of these mods. One person that comes to mind is Guzzle, find a thread that he has posted and look at his gallery. His maintanance & mod link is great too. I personally used it this weekend with my valve body install.

I finally drove it today, Not bad at the when you first slam on the gas but when that turbo kicks in all i gotta say is WOW, It has a AIRRADE intake system and when i would get off the gas i could hear a flapping noise so when i got home i inspected it and the rubber part of the air filter was cracked and flappin around, The stinkin thing was barley on and there was a hole, So i went to NAPA and got a K&N for it, I love this truck other than i think my 5.4 i had in my other superduty would smoke it on the beginning but they make stuff for it LOL. Im plannin on spending money now!

Be warry of that K&N, I remember a post a whaile back where they did filtration test and the K&N was pretty dirty. Enuff so that it could abraise the wheel in the turbo

Also, be sure your diesel is up to operating temp before you flog on it... They like to run warm, not cold.

Abuse the stock wheel all you want...Time for Wicked Wheel anyway!! While you are under the hood tighten all the intake clamps. If your blue and red intake boots have an oily dirty film re torque those clamps.

Also if it has not been done yet, take off that insulation off the hot side tube going to the intercooler. You can't miss it. Looks like crap. You can hear the turbo a bit better.

Unplug your wastergate and plug the line on one of the intercooler clamps.

Congrats on the new truck.

Best advice right now is to go to the sticky at the top of this 7.3 section, and go to the Common Mods thread, and read it and all the links in it... you'll learn a LOT!

Not to mention how easily it is removed. Oh wait, that is not what I meant to post. How do I like mine? I was offered a brand new Amarillo as a gift if I was willing to trade my '99 in on it. I declined, does that tell you how much I may like mine?
