I need help from the more hard core data types concerning front coil springs on a 78 F-250 2WD P/U. The existing spring has an OD of 5.400", wire dia. of 0.665", mean coil dia. of 4.735" and 7 active coils (9 total). The top coil is open w/o an insulating rubber. The lower coil is closed and has a reduced diameter for the spring retainer. Spring rate calculators agree that the spring constant is ~370 #/in. I can't get a free length since it is still in the truck but the length at full droop is 15.75". Can anyone identify that spring by mfg., part #, etc and supply any missing data?
Data on the existing springs will be a big help in setting up the modified front suspension. I plan to lower the front end between 1-2" and will need a stiffer spring to go along with an added sway bar. And history has taught me that guessing critical data seldom yields a satisfying set-up.
