I was wondering what a paint job for my '69 f100 would cost. I just wanted a ballpark idea. I don't want an Earl Scheib job but I don't want the best painter in the world to do the job. Just a middle to upper middle of the road job, sanded down to bare medal. There is not a bunch of body work needed. Any info would be appreciated.
Taking it down to nothing, expect anywhere from $75-$150/hr for prep, then the cost of the paint plus labor for that. You'll probably wind up in the $1000-$1500 range at a minimum.
You probably already know a quality paint job is determined by the quality of the prep.
The kind of paint job (using a 2 stage paint) you describe would go for about $4000.00 up this way.
This doesn't include Prep.
That's just the materials and the squirt.
If you find a guy who will do a complete paint job and step away from the insurance quickies- get you truck in there. I waited 6 months for my truck, and that was with me really leaning on him to get it finished!
I just got mine out of the paint shop. I had them take everything but the cab off the truck (doors, box, hood, tailgate, fenders). Had some rust fixed on the fenders and door skins replaced half way down. I used a Base Coat/Clear Coat and had the jams painted but did not paint the interior. My ticket was right at $4,500 (which included everything - Labor and Product). I did not paint my box but instead had it Rihno Lined. If you have someone else do the work I do not think you will get by much cheaper than that. My advice is if your going to take the time and spend the $$ do it right the first time. When it comes to body work and paint you get what you pay for. These truck turn the heads when they are fixed up right.
