Level2, how'd you get 2 12"s in?

Vehicle specific box that I bought from www.topedgeonline.com for about $80. You have to remove the rear jump seats and the jack storage to get it in but its not too bad, unless you get a flat of course. Which I have but I was very close to home.

Also, the Tremor has a rear seat delete, so telling people I can't cart their *** around is a big pleasure.
IMHO, if the factory one breaks, it just gives you an excuse to replace it. I purchased the head unit in my Ranger for my former 99 Mustang GT back in the winter of 99 and it still works fine. My brother's factory radio in his 02 Ranger (just the basic CD player) broke about a year and a half ago and he just swapped it out for a $80 CD player from Best Buy. Given the inadequate length of the factory warranty, I don't see any real advantage there.

As a friendly suggestion, if you buy from some place like Crutchfield, they do include VERY detailed instructions along with the install kit needed to replace the factory junk. While they are a tad overpriced (IMHO) if you're inexperienced in this area they are the way to go for a first time do-it-yourselfer. Fortunately Ford hasn't built anything recently that doesn't require removing half the dash to swap the radio, so you're already a few steps ahead there.

One of my friends just got a Ford Escort a couple of weeks ago, there ain't no way to put an aftermarket radio in that thing, the buttons for the radio are like built into the trim panel.

Makes me like my Ranger. The radio cutout was exactly the size of the radio.

Zach,

I have to tell you that your friend can still replace the radio in his Escort. I had a 2001 ZX2 and there is a kit that replaces that whole piece that you can install a single din radio in. It has all the places for the HVAC controls and the one I had moved the factory rear defrost button from the right side of the control to the left. I got mine from a friend that deals stereo equipment so I got it at cost but that was still about $80 and you have to be careful not to break any of the HVAC controls when you switch them over. I would have given it to him had I not already given it to another person here in town. Here is a link to one for about $64. Look about 2/3rds of the way down the page. http://www.desent-audio.com/installation_kits.htm

On a similar note, why do the Fx4 packages not get the 8.8? Do they really get a smaller axle with limited slip (that wears out in 20k miles)?

All the 4x4 Rangers have the 8.8" rear end. Just the Level II's that get the Torsen rear end. The 8.8" Traction Lok rear end is a good rear end but if you don't change the fluid and add in the friction modifier it will wear the clutches in the LS down. I had the traction lok rear end in my mustang untill I grenaded the ring and pinion and I replaced the LS with a Auburn Pro cone clutch unit that is much stronger and doesnt need the friction modifier.
