block heater cord?
I've heard that some of the newer 6.0 L's don't necessarily come with the block heater cord installed even though the block heater is installed. I had a few questions:
Which year did this start?
Is there a way to tell (options package, etc?) when you buy your truck?
What's the part number and cost to get the cord afterwards?
Just looking for some info for an article, since I myself own a 7.3 L.
Thanks for your help,
-Rob
The cord is standard equipment on vehicles sold in certain cold weather states. Can't think of them off the top of my head. Otherwise, it's a 35.00 dealer option for the cord if you were to special order a vehicle. If the vehicle in question does have a cord, it will be found around the area behind where the passenger-side fog light is located.
Part numbers are:
Z3500043-- If purchased from International. can't seem to find the Ford part # Cost I think is around 25-35 bucks. A lot cheaper then how much you'd pay at the Ford dealer.
Hope this helps
When you get a chance you might want to cruise over to our Tech Folder for some great 6.0 info.

2005 Block Heater Option:
All 2005 F-Series and Excursions with the 6.0 PowerStroke have a block heater installed on the engine. However, the cord for the block heater must be ordered as an option (code 41H). The cord is installed on vehicles originally sold in the following states: Alaska, Colorado, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, Missori, North and South Dakota, and Wyoming. Broadcast Message 1512, 3090.
BTW: The 6.0 Tech Folder has instruction for routing the block heater cord.

I'm not sure what the term 'sold in' means, but I bought my 2005 in Missouri (off the lot) and it did NOT have a cord.
International dealer is the best (cheapest) place to get one and install is fairly easy (best done after truck has been sitting, so you don't deal with hot parts)
It's supposed to be over 100 here for the next several days.....sometimes I think I may never need a heater again...
