Strange judder from somewhere???
A day or two after it starts to judder when I go 50mph and 1600rpm's, it's getting worse every day.
Could it be that I used the wrong oil type? I used Valvoline ATF MaxLife DEXRON III/MERCON.
The car is 4x4 and has just passed 60000 miles.
It's supposed to be a 4R100 according to instruction book, but it says E4OD inside in the bottom.
Also tried to change the CPS to the new improved blue one, still the same problem.
Please advise me if I'm using the correct oil type?
And/or what-ever is causing this problem?

How's the fluid level?
Well at 120k miles my first thought was U-joints. The lovely maintenance free U-joint. I pulled the drive shaft (for the rear axle) and inspected the U-joints, which all seemed to be fine, free moving with no slop. But I noticed that the spline-slip joint in the drive shaft felt dry with some noticeable slop (lash). I removed the slip joint boot, lightly lubed the splines and re-assembled. At this point I assumed the lash was acceptable but the new grease did quite the clunk from the required lash.
My pinion seal was already leaking (still leaking from shotty warranty work many years ago) so I had planned to R&R the seal anyway. I then noticed that the pinion had noticeable fore & aft movement plus up and down. Granted this movement was about 0.010” but there should not be any movement like this. The pinion bearing pre-load torque was almost nothing. I pulled the pinion yoke, seal, front bearing and crush sleeve. Replaced the crush sleeve with a new part and re-set the pinion bearing pre-load with a new pinion nut. This part of the job was a monster. I had to use some major leverage but with every ¼ turn the slop diminished and the pre-load restored. I won't bore you with the issues I had trying to install a new pinion seal. Luckily for me, the old seal was still good so I reused it, which is still leak free today. I changed the axle lube and added a new bottle of friction modifier.
End results:
- The lube added to the drive shaft slip joint fixed a clunk I had when shifting into drive.
- The proper pinion bearing pre-load fixed the driveline vibration issues and the pinion seal leak.
- The fresh friction modifier added to the new axle lube fixed the judder issue when turning sharp into my drive way and parking spots.
Hope this helps. Now I have over heating rear brakes to work on next.
It feels almost like a misfire when driving around 50mph. Just when you slightly accelerate to maintain correct speed. Once I ease off the accelerator it's running normal again.
Checked oil level in transmission again: still normal.
Just a thought; Could it be the rear axle, since this also was changed to Valvoline Gearoil 80W-90 (I use this oil instead of 75W-140, due to our cold climate). But no friction modifier was added.
According to the ford dealership in Norway the friction modifier was not needed.
