I am SURE this has been hashed before, but the search didn't give me anything.
Anyway.....is anyone using Castrol Syntec FULL SYNTHETIC in their 5.4 Expy?
I am wanting to go to a full synthetic (overkill, probably) just be be as sure as possible that I get as much lube to it as I can. I have used Valvoline synthetic in other vehicles in the past as was pretty pleased with it, also.
I am using Syntec in my 99 Eddy and it seems to be ok. I took a 1600 mile trip last week and it went thru a quart in 1600 miles.I was driving at 80mph and it was 96* out. I have never used oil like that before, I am using 5w-30 at this time but I am changing the oil this week end and I think I will try 5w-50 to see if that helps. Any comments would be helpfull.
2003
XP EB 5.4
I use 5-20 Mobil-1 FUll syn.
36.000 miles
its the first time I use this 5-20 I have always used 10-30 and 5-30 in other cars...
what do you think about it?
Been using Castrol Syntec since the first oil change in my 04 4X4 with the 5.4L. I have a 100 mile daily comute, and just crossed the 60,000 mile mark with no consumption problems at all, even with the 100+ temperatures of the Oklahoma summer.
Yea I'm in LHC, AZ temps going over 120 I use 5w-50 castrol Syntec and have had no problems as of yet. I've used CS for the last 5 years on my various cars from a 01 Grand Prix to a 01 Dodge Caravan and now my 05 Expedition.
My '01 expy consumed ALOT of oil prior to switching over to syn. My '06 has used syn since I brought her home from the hospital...I mean dealership. I haven't noticed any loss of oil, however, as rough at it runs at start up you'd think there wasn't a drop of oil in it.
Syntec is good stuff. If you read around here a little you will find that Motorcraft 5w20 is a full synth and it's like $2.25 at wallyworld. (I'm off to get some this afternoon) Performs well and is reasonable. "Doesn't void Mfgr's warranty" either LOL
