how is this possible?

I cannot believe someone ever got this big. I would think organs would fail under all that weight!!

From what i can see, many people are fat because they eat too much. I like to think of it like a bank account, you want it to get smaller, use up more than you put in. For some, however, its not that simple. There apparantly really is a genetic or biologic aspect to it.

I think it's not fair to say it is always due to overeating. There are some people who have abnormal hormones.

But that's probably only about one percent of the population, or less.

I know why I'm 20 pounds overweight, and it ain't hormones.

I was blessed w/ a high metabolism. I can eat a dozen li'l donuts and drink a quart of whipping cream for lunch and NOT gain weight. I am also very active. My wife is "fluffy", like a teddy bear.My daughter is 4'11" and 98# wet. SHE eats like a 6' logger. It helps to have a set of 5-yr old twin girls to wrangle, They keep Papa busy.

It's really unfair to lump everyone who's overweight into the same "overeaters" category. There are real genetic problems, but the majority of overweight people have the same problem that people who talk too much do - they can't keep their mouth shut.

i should rephrase my earlier comment. yes, genetics can cause you to be "large", but not 1200lbs large. that is from overeating. he has been bedridden for 5 years, so someone had to be feeding him a few wheelbarrows full per day.
he did not get that way from 2 pbj's and a glass of milk 3 times a day

i can say one thing for a fact, there are WAY to many fat people in this country. where i am ain't, if someone is over 16 years old, then it is very rare to see anyone thin. i can sit out side walmart all day and probably see only 5 thin poeple over the age of 16 walk in. its sad and pitiful.

Too many of us using food to solve other issues in life. Genetics, activity and lifestyle all play big roles but often overlooked are other stresses in life that lead to abusing food. Doesn't make it right, but sometimes it's more complex than just over eating. I also cringe to see the types and amounts of food some parents TEACH their kids to eat, I mean come on, give the kid a fighting chance.

My wife battles being overweight, but her thyroid is not doing much at all, meaning her metobolism is waaaay low, but all the same, proper diet helps. A lot of this sythetic food we eat is a big part of the reason so many are overweight. In all reality, amny of the foods they claim are bad for us like whole milk or butter, are actually better for us than the margarine and skim milk...

My younger brother battles a thyroid disorder and has been big all his life. I weigh 300 lbs. and have weighed that for the past 6 years, I dont eat much, but I could probably find healthier food when I do eat. Thats my fault and its also my damn business.

Yeah, like i said, i dont know what his particular issue is, but not exercising is part of it. At any rate, it is their business...well, until i have to sit on a plane next to him, but thats off topic.
