97' "rough" idle

97' with mods..one of which injectors...hypermax stage 1(if that matters). just noticed that with this warmer weathr all teh sudden. 85+ degrees, idle is rough. ONLY when started up after sitting for a while or in morning. Even if i drive it and drive it and let it sit for a few minutes. problem still is present, once it's driven though and you idle it...it's fine. idle is still at 600 or wherever it's suppost to be..but it fluctuates about 100 rpm's or so(approx. according to tach in truck). but once truck is driven for a few mins and u hit a light or w/e, idles fine. could this be injectors or something else more serious or possibly just the warmer weather or wat not?

try running a code scanner on it, then try unpluggin all your sensors (one at a time) and see if that changes anything

i just replaced my ICP and it fixed my rogh idle problem

forgot to mention this but thought maybe it'd help....it sounds basically like somebody is turning the a/c on and off....thats the tone the engine is making as far as rpm changes go. and icp sensor..what does that stand for?

it's a good explanation of ICP and some troubleshooting help

you must copy the link physically (highlight and hit ctrl+c (copy)) and then paste it in the address bar and then remove the spaces.

one more time, just remove the spaces ht tp://ww w.th edies els top.com/faq/9497faq/maint/ecsd/icp.php3

thanks...for some reason that helped and it worked. anyways; i went and checked what i could (w/o break out box) and everything checked out ok and with in specs. wondering if theres any way to check the actual sensor itself? what about the ipr(injection pressure regulator). i've got a book from my college thats for learning adn noticed this sensor as well. can this possibly have anything to do with it?

thanks

yes very much so, the injector pressure regulator is directly related to idle. if the ipr goes bad then rough idle would be the result

idle isn't TERRIBLE....but enough to notice....basically it's like the a/c is being turned on and off...thats how much it's fluctuating. but is there a way to check the actual sensors? ipr and icp?

yea thats what mine was doing and it drove me crazy! i'd be sittin in traffic and the guy next to me would think i was revving to race him.

best way i have found is to start unplugging the sensors one at a time until you notice a difference. i unplugged the ICP and immediately noticed a difference.

Cutts,

Where would I find the connector for the ICP?

If the idle smooth out when I disconnect the ICP what is it that is bad , the ICP it self or something else?

Jack

The ICP is located on the front left head.

Same thing as me, its a 3 wire sensor on the left cylinder head at the very front, open your fuel filter dore and it'll be stairing at you with a big smile.........unplug it, if it smooths out, order a sensor

viperrtblck, you can unplug it before you start your engine. It will activate your CEL (Check Engine Light), but just ignore it. If the probelm is gone with it unplugged, then the ICP sensor is bad and you need to replace it.

The ICP sensor reads the oil pressure in the heads for the injectors and sends a siganl to the PCM and the PCM sends a signal to the IPR which increases or decreases the oil pressure. With the ICP unplugged the PCM goes to a default setting and sends a constant siganl to the IPR.
