help w/ 86 dash piece
the head unit was stolen and they tore the dash piece that holds the head unit in. it had a pioneer aftermarket in it. anyways i wnet to the junkyard and found a 83 F-150 and took the dash piece i needed. it was still cut our of the stock radio and i cut it out bigger but now it's too big and it turns out my old piece was a little smaller on my 86. but i thought all the 80-86 dash was the same ? is mine diffrent cause it's the X w/ the wood grain ? and this one was like carbonfiber /silver loooking ?
can i get the adapter kit for a 83 F-150 and make this piece work or do i need the right 86 piece ? thanks
check out this online catalog page from LMC Truck. http://lmctruck.com/icatalog/fd/0033.html
they show that that style of dash radio cover #14 is specifically for 82-83 trucks.
i guess i will try the mounting kit if i can find one ! if not i guess i'll go to a few more junkyards and hope to find the right radio cover
I looked around a little bit on circuit city's online inventory and found this universal kit
Metra 1975-2000 Ford/Lincoln/Mercury/Jeep/Eagle Custom Installation Kit 1982-up for $17.99. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Metra...oductDetail.do
I don't know much about how well, or not so well made they are but i'm sure if you do a little more searching you could find some more mounting kits. That is, if you want to keep the dash original.

1980 to 1984 had Shaft Mount Radios. The holes in the bezel were taller but narrower for the stock radio face, and had two **** holes.
Certain 1984, 1985 and 1986 had "din mount style" radios. Had a standard din mount sized hole that had a shorter, but longer hole than the shaft mount bezels
sort of like this:
Shaft mount:
._____.
_|___|_
O|___|O
Din Mount:
.________.
|________|
Try looking in a big truck wreckers as well.
You can look in the 1985 to 1991 F-600s or better trucks for a working bezel as well. Although they are Black Mesh weave. etc...
1992 to 1999 F-600s or better have a working bezel as well but the top of the bezel is twice as large where the clock mounts on the pickups, for mounting accessories, or clipboards etc.. to them. Although they fit, it may not look right. also black mesh weave.
Try Dennis Carpenter as well, they have a great selection of Radio Bezels. Although pricey.
