Well it's time for myself to change the rear differential cover do to rusting,
My question is do i need to had friction modifer that ford sells if i use Mobil Synthetic 75w - 140. I've been told by others that i don't with Mobil Synthetic.
well first question is do you have a limited slip diff? But to outright answer your question actually no you don't as the mobil 75w-140 has friction modifiers in it already according to thier info specifically for running it in limited slip diffs. I suppose they did that so people won't add other friction modifiers to thier gear oil that may not be compatable.
from Mobils site
Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube 75W-140 LS contains special friction modifiers designed for limited slip-type differentials. In most applications, the addition of special LS (limited slip) additives is not required. For axles requiring the highest level of limited-slip performance, OEM specific LS additives can be added to this fluid.
After you addd the new differential fluid, drive in figure 8's. If there is chirpping going on you will need to add some kind of friction modifier. I used the Amsoil syntehtic and it was very obvious that I needed to add some of the modifier when I did any turns!

Any help would be great. Thanks.

I have had no issues

No Blaine's FARM N FLEET, Just Tractor Supply Co. After i re-coop from today's heat, I will take a run over to TSC and do some looking and reading.
When I did mine I put a Mag Hytec cover on it, going to be much easier to change the fluid next time
Mag Hytec was my first choice( $ 235.00 beans), But a upcoming Bear hunt as me spread pretty thin for anything that can wait, So i just got a stock one for $ 24.00 from the dealership, it will do fine until i can get the Mag-Hytec.
