flexplate replacement
hi all's i just aquired a 1984 Bronco II 2.8l automatic 4X4.
it needs the flexplate replaced and i was wondering what the easiest way to replace it is. pull the engine or the transmission.

I would definately slide the tranny back. Even taking it all the way out is easier than pulling the motor in my opinion. All it takes is basic tools and a floor jack or a couple of average strength people versus a hoist of some sort for the motor. I am in th eprocess of pulling the motor and a few other components out of my '84 Ranger and putting them into my '84 Bronco II. My spare engine and the ranger are now parts that I might part with.

thanks for the input. unfortanatly the bronco turned out to be stolen :-( so it is gone now and i now am working on a '88 ranger 4x4 that needed a new clutch. so that is basically what i did is drop the tranny. whenever i get enought time i will get it back in this week.

d'OH. A stolen BII -- in Washington state? That actually happens? You don't say! I kept wondering if anyone were going to steal my '87 when I lived in WA. Hell, I used to forget to lock it or roll up the windows sometimes and no such luck. Not that I wanted it to get stolen or whatever... haha. Whereabouts in WA are you...?
Kidding. I prefer the Puyallup area over Tacoma. Mainly because I'd rather smell cow/horse droppings than that ever-nauseating Tacoma aroma
