Aerostar Rack wouldn't stop leaking
For some reason Ford decided it would be a nice joke to use "one time use" nylon o-rings for the seal on the outside and a regular o-ring on the inside of the fitting.
I have never seen something so crappy as this. I could never get both the inner and outer rings to not leak at the same time.
To replace the nylon ring on the outside you need a special tool. This is a tapered cone that goes over the fitting so the nylon ring will stretch over the threads. I had to make my own tool on my lathe. That didn't matter because it still leaked.
So, what I eventually did is weld the fitting to the inside tube. Then I used a regular o-ring on the outside. So far it seems to be holding up. This worked for me because I only have a short piece of tubing after the fitting for the return line. I screw the fitting in and then slip my return hose on after with a hose clamp.
Anyone else had this kind of problem?
