1951 Back Break Shoes

I'm doing a brake job on my 1951 Ford F-1. The back break shoes are the same length but one is thicker than the other, which one do I hook up to the emergency brake?

That doesn't sound right. As I recall, one of them should have a shorter length of lining, it goes to the front of the truck on each side. It's been a couple years since I did them tho. I've never seen where one lining is thicker than the other.

Welcome to FTE! I have seen rear shoes where one was thicker than the other because of wear but new shoes should be of the same thickness. Over the years I have seen shoes mounted with the shorter length to the front and to the rear and it seems to make little difference in braking, but as ALBUQ says the shorter one should go to the front. The emergency brake cable is almost always mounted to the rearmost shoe. Once you get your cable in there you will see that it's nearly impossible to connect the emergency brakes to the front shoe...
