I have a 2006 ps crew cab , The first time I took it to the dealer for an oil change I noticed that it seemed to have more power when I got it back. I don't have a problem with that in fact I did not mind at all.
Well Last Saturday I took it back for another oil change and when I left the dealership I got 2 miles down the road and the check engine light came on. I returned and they checked the codes and said the turbo went out and they would order me a new one. I have not had any problems with the truck up till I took it to them for the oil change. I have some questions
1.Could they have done something changing the oil to make the turbo go out?
2. On the invoice they said they removed and replaced the turbo with a turbo from SSM. Is this a good turbo? who is SSM?
also they had a part number 5C3Z-6K682-DA Shield 0876 What is this?
I would have asked them when I had the truck picked up but I had someone else pick it for me.
ssm is an abbreviation for special service message. The turbo is an updated version that has a relief machined into the housing to prevent vanes sticking. Vanes can stick in both full boost or no boost and anywhere in between. It was just a coincidence with the timing of the oil change.
Thank you, I got nervous when this happened I thought that this dealership messed it up and if I had any other problems I would take it somewhere else. This sure is a great site.
