Ok so I changed out my filter and fluid for my old C6 a few weeks ago. Prior to changing them the tranny shifted fine. Not awesome.....but pretty good. After changing parts the transmission will not shift into second or third under normal driving conditions. It will manually shift from first to second but when you tilt it up to drive it's like putting the truck into neutral. However if you floor the gas the truck will shift through all gears albeit very harshly. I've checked the fluid levels and made sure I removed all the old seals and rings and I've installed the filter correctly with rings. So what could I have done wrong? I need some help gurus. Thanks in advance.
There is a lot to be said for the old statement "ain't broke don't fix it" My c6 has well over 350,000 miles on it and I've never even changed the fluid, only added once in a while. Knock on wood.
Sounds like you may have the internal shift linkage out of place if you removed the valve body or moved the shift lever. When you check the vacuum modulator on the rear make sure the rod is inside as well as a good vacuum.
It seems to me I remember, maby it was Carl ? Saying here some time ago that if you just remove the filter, the valve body gaskets can start leaking and cause it not to shift. His solution was to always remove the valve body and put in new gaskets if you want to change the filter.
Removing the valve body will allow you to check the not so well known Upper Filter but I'm not sure about the gasket. I had to take mine out and change the filter, I cleaned mine, three times in as many days with no trouble.
The fluid difference is true and serious as well. I'm about sure I burned my 83's from using type F in it. I found the difference during the rebuild.
