This is my first post but I've been using this site a while. Well there are 2 problems I'm looking for help with. First off I have a 2002 F-350 lariat CC S/B auto w/99,000mi I put 62,000mi on in last 13 mo. during this time I replaced the shocks, swaybar links, all ball joints, front ESOF hub seals 3 times, transmission pump bushing/seal, brake line, exhaust "fell off", new plugs fuel filter etc. After all this I still love my truck.
1.) front leafs I think squeak constantly, every bump and especialy when braking at slow speed. (just plain annoying) tried spray lube....but no help.
2.)Heater will not just blow ambient outside air. a/c works great while on, **** to cold=cold/to hot=hot. now when on just face/feet etc. cold=very warm/hot=really hot. I don't have a clue.
3.)I have to add this my V10 is pretty weak (had Dodge V10 and V8 both were better) I only tow a 3000# cargo trailer and i'm at 25mph on twisty hills. I live in maine and these hills aren't that long or steep.
please help if you can and oh yeah how many exhaust manifold bolts have to be broke off to warrant replacing them!
Hey there. I've got the same problem on a 2000. The front just makes weird squeaks. Particularly at slow speed. Every bump had a creek. I hope someone who has dealt with this answers. I'd love to know the answer too. BTW, I'm a few hundred miles from breaking 100k. Love it more now than I did the day I brought it home. And trust me, I loved it a lot that first day!
There was a known issue way back when with the pads that are between the leafs.
I've had a little crunchy sound from time to time, but a good hose-down to get the dirt out of there helped a lot.
What swaybar endlinks did you use? Ford stock? Or poly?
Either way, they could be part of the problem too (or the swaybar bushings, especially).
Post about your V10 down in the V10 forum, and you'll be sure to get LOTS of good info on what to look for first (fuel filter, MAF cleaning, no vacuum leaks, etc). IF you're closing in on 100K miles, and you haven't already done the plugs, it's a MUST at this point. It will definitely help the power.
As to the heater not blowing outside ambient air, the heater core on your truck probably does NOT have a cutoff valve, and even if it did, it probably wouldn't blow cool outside air anyway. The heater core doesn't shutoff except in MAX A/C, I think, on the stock trucks with the heater core cutoff. If you don't have a cutoff valve, add one, it'll make the AC colder, and you could use the "vent" setting for outside air and not cook yourself
krewat I used OEM links and I have done fuel filter and plugs. It seems to be only the drivers side spring that squeaks. I can stand next to the wheel and lift on the fender well and it squeaks llike a bed spring, plus if someone does that and I fell around the rear "mount" of the spring is where I can acually FEEL the squeak also. is that the bushing you were speaking of and should I get poly links next time? how could I tell if the bushings are bad, they apear solid and in tact?
Doesn't ANYONE else have a squeaking front spring? That is the problem I REALLY want to fix? Please if someone that reads this knows another member that has had a similar noise, let them know and please post back. I appreciate krewat, the ONE person who replied, but I really need help with this and would love some more info. Even if this is just an isolated problem and nobody has expierienced it please reply and let me know that.
Ford has a correction for the squeaking front leaf springs. It was like a hidden recall--If you brought the truck in under warranty with squeaking front springs, they fixed it. If your truck didn't squeak, you never brought it in and didn't get the fix. That's what they call a hidden recall.
Go to your local Ford dealer's parts department and ask them for the plastic liners for the front leaf springs. They fit in between the 2 leafs at the very front of the front spring and will usually eliminate the squeak.
I too have squeeking front springs. My truck is a 99 with 119000 miles on it. I replace the plastic pads between the springs and it greatly reduced the noise - however, it is still there, especially at low speeds. Ive come to accept that its the nature of the beast...I still love my truck. It just likes to let me know that it IS a truck. I too have the V10, and while it does feel a bit sluggish at times, it DOES have ***** and it still eats rice burners. Great truck and great engine. I love my truck!!!!
thank you ron, That recall was the one thing I was able to find while searching but it also said that by 2002 the problem was fixed. I can feel the squeak at the rear of the leaf with my hands if I rock the truck slightly, but I will still check with a dealer about the "pad" thanks
Rongold, I knew someone would step up with the right info I knew about the "silent recall" but decided to give someone else a chance to answer. Thanks!
Anyway, if you can't find the updated pads, it's possible you just wore out the ones that are in there. Maybe a leaf-spring place will have what you need. I know here on Long Island, there are a number of leaf-spring places that "roll their own" and they are a wealth of knowledge about such things. Places like Derry Spring in Huntington, NY, etc. are the type of places I'm talking about.
I had a lot of that until I started spraying WD-40, super penetrant, various other crap, and then straight up engine oil into it. The oil, applid over a period of a few months via a squirt-can, seems to have solved it. Just squirt it in between the leaves where you can. Oh yeah, I also put the updated spring spacers in prior to all the oils.
I recommend parking the truck somewhere oil can drip while you put it on. It's not going to drip forever, but you're squirting oil in and it drains out.
