What constitutes original?

I finally brought my truck home. Right now, most everything is still original. My question is, what constitutes original? Right now there is vinyl in the truck, but I want to put in carpet: is this a bad thing to do? Also, it is a Camper Special with the special bumper (takes up A LOT of space in the garage); would it be considered "not original" to replace the bumper?

Thanks.

Mark

Mark, You just brought home a nearly 40 year old truck, there is no way to tell what has been changed out in those years. Some folk seemed to care about original, but unless you have owned it since new, you really can't tell.

There is no real value on an old Ford truck, so I invite you to do as I did and add creature comforts to your new truck and enjoy it. Power disc brakes and steering along with a self shifting tranny are nice things to add for comfort.

Be happy, and if original makes you happy so be it.

John

John said it right: It is your truck, you do what YOU want with it.

Now, keep this in mind: If you want to make any changes, drive the truck for a few months before deciding for sure what to change. So many of us have rushed into changes that we regretted later on, because we didn't have enough experience with the truck to think them through.

Of course, if you want to change something like the bumper, you can can do so by just unbolting a few things. That change is reversible, and that is different. Just be sure to keep the old one for a few years to make sure you don't want to change it back.

Good luck with your new truck, and enjoy it!

I would also second what John said; Creature comforts and ESPECIALLY SAFETY upgrades are definitely positive things to do.
If you get a donor truck, disc brakes are neither hard nor expensive, as is power steering.

right on. I'm planning to add newer and updated items (ie radio). I didn't think about safety upgrades. The steering doesn't bother me, but the brakes definitely scare me. What would it take to do the brakes?

Sulldog,

You didn't state what year truck you got.

Original can be many things and they are usually determined by TRIM Lines.

Custom is a trim line.
Custom means exactly that: "Custom"
You can have rubber floor mats or carpet.......depending on what was installed by Ford or ordered by a customer.

Unless you feel the need to hose out the cab .........Go for the carpet
