Ford 8.8 needs 5.5 pints?

I have a Ford 8.8 3.55 ls rear axle, located on axle tag. I just drained the fluid, then refilled it by added 7 pints and 4 oz of modifier. The Haynes manual says it needs 5.5 pints, whats up?

The 8.8" need to be filled with a specified amount of lubricant, and not to the level of the fill plug. I'm not sure what effect of overfilling has.
