Hello, I have a 1988 bronco with 8.8 differential. I changed the oil and added 3 quarts of lube plus the friction modifier. The oil level is still not up to the plug hole. My Haynes manual states the capacity for my differential is 5.5 pints? Any idea why it would take more?
I filled up 2 axles last month, for the first I only bought 2 quarts initially, then had to buy 2 more. By the time of the second axle I was smarter and bought 5 quarts to begin with, just in case.
As most do, I have always filled diffs up to the plug bottom, but I believe I noticed in my owners' manual that Ford considers it full at some distance below the hole (I don't recall the exact measurement). This might account for the differences.
Interesting on the Mac. I bought one, but haven't put it on yet. I occasionally go slightly over rated payload, and thought it might help prevent premature wear there (I also have Firestone air bags and some other upgrades). I'd like to hear your experience!
