Guys,
Help me if you can.I have a 54 f100 with a 55 239(EBV 6015) and loadamatic dizzy. I bought a 57 rebuilt dizzy(for a 272) from Advance Auto to put into this motor. The end of the shaft that drives the oil pump is different. The 55 dizzy has a male end and the 57 a female end. My son-in-law ,at the Ford dealer, says the shafts cannot be swapped. I can't post pictures but I can email pictures to show what I mean. What am I doing wrong! I am going to post this on the 54 truck forum as well. Thanks in advance for any and all that can help with this.
Mike
In the EBV you have to use a later oil pump & drive that will mate with the late dizzy. There are 2 EBV versions, unfortunately you got the orphan! My 54 F350 had the correct 239 to make it a quick swap.
So what do I buy, a 55 239 oil pump or a 272 oil pump? I thought all the EBV's were built in Cleveland and interchangable. I know 54's were split between Dearborn and Cleveland and not completely compatable. So I have an early version EBV ? Just how bad of a job is changing the oil pump and is it totally accessable outside of the motor?
Id start by owning a shop manual.
Pumps are all external, any 272/292/312 pump will work. The later pump uses a 14 tooth drive gear as does the later dizzy so it runs at a 1:1 ratio. You also need the later intermediate shaft to complete the swap; again any later engine is the same.
Yeah, the oil pump drive change is (more or less) irrelevant to the Cleveland-Dearborn build issue, though it is confusing & I could see why you would think that. What....Ford engines & part interchanges, confusing?? Who'da thunk?
It's a fairly easy job to swap pumps, a couple of hours for both pump & dizzy. A shop manual will do wonders towards removing misery & woe from this job. As 286 notes, any late pump will do fine.
Im in Pelham.
Good luck with the swap, at least there is plenty of room to get at things. My truck is a 54 F350, I have to climb in and sit on the inner fenders!
Even more fun when working on a friends mini fleet of F600 to 800's.
