Cool This makes me soooo mad!!!

I went out to my truck the other day and noticed something on my tail gate, bumper and right rear fender. It looks like either plaster or white ineterior house paint. I tried soap and water to no avail. My friends suggested using rubbing alchol or acetone, but I'm kinda leery for obvious reasons. I don't want to take any paint or clear coat off. Anybody got any suggestions on how to get this stuff off before it eats my paint?

I used Mother's Rubbing Compound when I got the usual door dings and bumper scrapes. Why can't people park some place else when they don't know how to drive?

Oh - this did leave slight swirl marks but it did clean up the rubber smudges and the other car's paint. I also applied a coat of Mother's Carnuba Wax afterward. Hey, it's a truck and will have some battle scars.

Battle scars don't bother me that much because stuff will happen, but it's just that this almost looks delibrate. It looks like somebody took a paint brush and flung it on my truck. It probably wouldn't bother me that much if it happened a couple months down the road because I'm gonna completly repaint my truck, but it just irritates me now because I hate when my truck looks like crap.

IF it is paint or plaster warm soapy water and a scrub brush will take it off.

Since you live in the Hampton Roads area, it doesn't suprise me. They're are acetone-free paint thinners. You ever have the feeling that people want you to hit they're POS? Just curious.

I would think it would depend on the base of the paint. If it's latex, you might get it off with hot soapy water or a product called "OOOPS", if oil based, I would try some Naptha. You can get it at Lowe's, (VMP Naptha, i believe is the name), I have used this for years with no problems to clear coats or paint, I have used it on motorcycles, and cars, and no problems. You might also try some bug and tar remover from several makers, like turtle wax, I would NOT use rubbing compound till last resort, and if you do, don't do swirls but rather soft back and forth strokes.

Rubbing alcohol WILL NOT take the paint/clear coat off your vehicle. I have used it for years to take tree sap, and sticker residue off our vehicles.

Just thought I would ask, I thought I was the only one. If you can use naptha can you use Zippo lighter fluid? Vegetable oil works wonders for sticky stuff.

Most home improvement/hardware/paint stores have latex paint remover, it shouldnt hurt the paint on the truck.

Lighter fluid is basically naptha, but you can buy a gallon of the stuff pretty cheap at lowes, or home depot.

I like microfiber towels because they leave no lint, however, you could use a regular terri-cloth towel.

Use DENATURED alcohol. Last resort, put some MEK on a rag and wipe it off.
