The CUMMINS engine that the Dodge uses knocks the socks off of the diesel motors that Ford uses. But, that does not mean that everyhting around the CUMMINS motor is all that great...
Here the Ford dealership mailed out coupons for discounts on future purchases to anyone who bought a 6.0L Ford diesel. I have talked to 2 people who recieved them in the mail.
Around here Ford was king of the hill until they released the 6.0. Now Dodge is the new leader. Using pickups for ranch work folks don't like the long wheel based Chevys dragging through the grass. A local Hydrabed dealer who also sells heavy duty pickups will not trade for 6.0L Fords.
As for bodies falling off of Dodges I really don't see it. My "good" pickup is an '01 Dodge w/100K purchased new. It is equipped w/live hydraulics and Hydrabed (flatbed to pick up and feed large round bales) and has seen a lot of pasture time and most highway time is pulling a 24 ft livestock trailer. The only thing I've had to do is replace clutch master cylinder/slave cylinder pack. The mechanic told me it was fairly rare to see such a replacement in a Dodge.
It sounds like the original poster wasn't going to do really heavy duty work so either will work. Good luck.

Really? And whats best? You think people here is so stupid and don't know what is best? Are you mechanic expert or ?..........
We so long waited you from 2006 to hear from you whats the best......
A two commas on your post....
P.S. My 2006 F350 rides great and starts excellent in any weather condition!
this is a old post! the emmisions are killin the diesels. I have a cummins 6.7 2008 with 140,000+ and just spent about $17,000 in repairs on the emmissions issues since april. company truck. if you want to go ford 6.0 company trucks f-350 averaged around $45,000 in repairs in 140,000miles. this isn't considering fuel and routine repairs. Its a company truck but my bonuses are figured into this overhead costs. so anyways we didn't have much of a bonus with the ford 6.0's. Back to the cummins the problem that caused all the costs was a misdiagnosed problem. Bad injectors and clogged up regen system and installed new regen system and clogged up 4 days later at dealer. new injectors and smoke gone. but everything replaced like egr cooler and exhaust manifold/blown gskts and warped manifold and many other problems leading up to all these problems. Truck was in shop a lot and since found a new mechanic and problems fixed. If I was a small business I would of had to file for bankruptcy due to vehicle expenses. the powerstroke was worse than the dodge.
True, but what do you expect from a boss? Why is it that it seems the biggest idiots of all are always the ones in charge? How is it that the dumbest ones always seem to be the ones that get the farthest in the workplace? I think it's called: "marrying the owners seriously overweight daughter" LOL.
