Zach, I assume you already have the axle out? You need a press for that. Usually the retaining ring needs to be cut off as well.
You also need a press to put them back on. Using a hammer will distort them and ruin the new ones. A machine shop will usually do both axles for about $30 to $50.
Now is the best time to do both; if one is bad, the other isn't far away.
Change both seals while you are at it, about $3 each, and change the fluid too - think how many years old it is!

Question I have for this thread - where is the best place to obtain the axle bearing/retainer and seal for this year range 9-inch"? I am not having luck finding them.
Try our sponsors such as Macs Antique auto parts (online) LMC etc NAPA should be able to help. If you have the axle out there will be a number on the bearing and seal.

Thanks for the feedback. I tried Napa online but really did not get anywhere locating the axle bearing - the only bearings I could pull up were for the diff carrier itself. I will try Macs for this.
BTW: I am perfroming the Torino axle swap to obtain the 4.5"x5 bolt pattern as outlined in the forum tech article, and I need to swap the axle retainer plate and use the thinner bearing collar. Also, thanks for the tip for the number on the seal and bearing, I need to collect these before ordering....
