unobtainable rear e-brake cable...

Thanks to Barry et al, I learned the CORRECT part numbers for the rear e-brake cables for my CS rear (heavy-duty, 2 1/2") rear brakes.

I have found (1) available for one side only, the other is not obtainable or in stock ANYWHERE I've looked.

I found (thanks, Barry) (1) C6TZ 2A635-G cable at Green Sales in Cinci.

The other, C6TZ 2A635-H, is the one I can't find, and a local NAPA store doesn't show ANY cross-reference replacement number.

What can I do? Where can I look?

Does ANYBODY know of anyone with a truck with a heavy-duty rear end (2 1/2" brakes) they'd part the cable out of?

Go back to napa with your dimentions and the other correct cable, and look in the catalog with the pretty pictures, you can probubly find something you can use. Shortening cables is easy, and you can extend them also if you need to.

PS. I took a quick look in the parts book and C7TZ-K or L are 2 inches longer, and C7TZ-D is an inch shorter if those are available.

the one your looking for is 74-1/32 inches long

I had to add length to my brake cables. It was eigth inch cable. I cut off the ends of my old cables leaving enough to fudge a little. Cut off the ends of the new cable. Measured and used what is called a double ferrul. Used two of them to be safe. Adjusted the lendth and crimped the ferruls shut. If this is not a show truck than this may be a option to consider. I got my ferruls for trapping, so check with a trapping supply or maybe an ag store. They are something like $3-4 per 50.

Next to last item on the bottom. Basicaly it crimps the cable so both pieces cannot slide. Looks like this site will sell singles. Better get at least 10. Also needs a good pair of cable cutters but you can get those in town.

good luck.

Unless I can find the correct part, the cut/splice method may be my only hope. BUT, the kicker is the HOUSING, which is different where it butts up against the backing plate than a regular F250 backing plate. Any new cable I find must have the proper housing, and so the cut/splice method COMBINED with matching the pretty pictures (for the housing) might be my only bet.

What a pain, guess I'd better take the pain when owning an older truck...

Thanks!

CarQuest lists them in thier books still. Part numbers are 67682 and 67683. My local guy says he can get them from thier wharehouse. It's the same w/house your local CQ will get parts from.
