Suggestion: Find additional headliner material from boneyard or find suitable piece of fabric that blends well with existing headliner. Cut a rectangular piece of stiff cardboard, light plastic, etc that will hold its shape. Cut the fabric of choice large enough to allow the edges of fabric to overlap the support piece by at least 3/4 inch. Take fabric to one of those kiosk places in the mall that do custom embroidering. Have something like "Custom Designed For (friend's name)" embroidered. Put a small amount of cotton/polyester batting (ask mom/wife/gf what this is) between fabric and support piece, glued edges of fabric to support. Attach two strips of Velcro to back of support where they will meet existing headliner. Attach cover and happy motoring!
Alternative: Fill opening with suitable sized drop down vanity/eyeglasses/door opener found in other cars.
Well, the hole is about 3 inches wide about about 6 inches long.
I think either lights or the radar was installed there because there is power to the area.
It's not bad but it doesn't look good to say the least.
I think the overhead console is a good idea just need to find one that fits.
I'd simply buy a replacement light like the one that was removed. They are cheap in any leo catalog, and REALLY put out nice light when in use. I had one in my PI, and used it all the time. They really don't look all that bad, especially compared to the large hole that is otherwise left in the headliner.
