Anyone in the IT feild?
Some of his friends are having a bitch of a time finding solid work, while others have multiple offers. He's one of them.
A crap shoot, I guess.
He quit Sun because of layoffs. Now works for Maximus as a systems administrator.
IT is a good field and there will always be jobs. You could almost say IT is a trade like plumbing in which you go to school to the basics but you really get to know your stuff with OJT.
I've worked my way up from operations (tape jockey) to help desk/desktop support and now as a Network admin. In my 6 years in IT I have always had a job in IT. I would say it is slow to change jobs because people that have goods job hang on to them just like any other field.
To really stand out you need to know your stuff from school, OJT and to top it off certs help you get the interviews.
So, there are many different fields in IT and fields with those fields
Ex. Programming -> Java, C+, .Net, AS400, Mainframe, etc...
I think the hot IT jobs are in security right now as well as a CCIE.
I've worked for Lockheed Martin, ArvinMeritor, Cummins, Shelter Distribution and Aisin Drivetrain.
You get out of it what you put in to it basically.
Good Luck!
JP
I appreciate the responses I have gotten here. One other question. Has anyone ever taken courses online? If so, how did you like/not like them?
