Attempted to fix the "brake problem"
I have a fear of going to the dealership. I even get free oil changes and services up to 3 yeras or 36,000 miles. But everytime I go in for service, not just one specific Ford dealership, but try 4 in my area, I come out with a scratch on the paint. So, anywho, I wanted to give this sqealing a killing. I put my truck in the air, rotated my tires (kill two birds with one stone ;-) ) and greased up the backing on the pads to reduce the noise. I even also touched up my caliper paint while I was at it. Anywho, the noise definitely reduced. I hear people getting new calipers, rotors, and pads through warrarnty....Why is that the case when the fix is something much cheaper? I'm sure there is a good reason since we are talking about Ford.....(i.e. Pinto )

In my case I did have bad squealing brakes but I had taken my truck into the dealer for brake vibration/shudder when stopping and they applied the TSB:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/tsb/full...p?tsb=05-21-19
And since it was completed (about 3 months ago) I have no vibration and no squealing, not one bit. I still got some major brake dust but I'll fix that with new pads (I already got 'em picked out, akebono proact, can get a whole set [front and rear] for only about $130). So by getting the warranty work done, and risking getting scratched paint, it has paid off. Also I pay good money for my truck, if for one reason or another Ford has determined they did not engineer or install something properly and have a method for fixing it then absolutely I will let them do so as it does not take anymore money from me. So in my case the fix was even cheaper for me since I did no labor or by any parts.
With your scratched paint problem, do you mention it right before you leave the dealership? At the dealer I use here they have me go over the truck and make any comments about its status. I have another opportunity to bring up issues when they do a customer satisfaction survey with me over the phone. If the service was anything but perfect the dealer with make it right.
Thats just my thinkin'.

Just had my truck in the shop yesterday for the brake shudder TSB, I also had some brake noise but it wasn't as much of a bother as the shudder was. I really only got the shudder at high speeds but it was noticable. I had just under 21,000 miles on those brakes and thought it was my heavy foot causing the problem until I found a post about the TSB on this site. Anyway the dealer replaced the rotors, calipers, pads... and now the brakes are like brand new. I should mention he only replaced the front brakes as the rears seemed to be alright. I haven't noticed any noise from the new brakes yet but its a little early to tell, I'll let you know if I hear anything over the next week or so.

I've got a 2004 F150 Lariat Supercrew. The TSB is for all trucks built before 11/29/04 and mine was built in July of 2004. Doesn't seem to matter how many miles you have on the truck so long is it is still under warranty. I did notice some brake noise today driving in the city but these brakes are hardly broken in so may just be some wear in, definately not as much noise as I was getting used to with the old set.
