So I just bought a 2004 Ford Ranger Ext. Cab, 4.0L V6, Manual, bla bla bla, I want to modify it some, but I don't have a lot of extra cash, what should I start with first? Exhaust, intake, computer programmer/chip? Help me out guys. Thanks, Jarrett.
A bama chips programer, the rest of the stuff pale in comparison. Other than the programer, expect to pay alot for little gain. A catback gives you more noise than hp without doing headers as well, but then it quickly becomes a 1,000 dollar exhaust system, if not more, when you buy headers also. The biggest bang for the buck is the programer.

When you got the chip, did they give you numbers like horsepower and torque ratings? Or was it a seat-of-the-pants thing? I'm really interested in the Bama chip, but I want to hear about results too. I'm sure the guy who posted this thread would also like to hear.
You can get up to 3 different tunes in the programer, maybe more by now, anyway results very to octane levels, and mods. I got the 87 octane mpg tune, 92 octane torque tune, and 93 octane hp tune. With my mods on 93 octane, it's worth 15 hp , and close to 20 foot pounds. There's varibles, like how many miles on the motor(is it half wore out) is the motor in good tune, and so on. You diffenatly will feel seat of the pants, it's also hard not to spin the tires. Doug will answer any questions you may have, his costumer service is next to none, he's one of the nicest guys I have ever delt with. He will also upgrade your programer as you add things like headers, or cams, things like that. Just give Doug your specific mods that you have, if any, and he'll let you know what you can expect from his product. Also he can get rid of speed limiter, adjust speedo for larger tires, and so on.
Im kind of new here...been lurking for a bit...bought an 03 4.0 L SOHC back in April...looking at ways to improve gas mileage...anyhow...heres the Bama Link...
I dont have huge cash...like next to none extra...any ideas on improving fuel economy would be GREAT ...
Happy Thursdayyyyyy...http://www.bamachips.com/#news
It's the least expensive hp you can buy for the gain. A catback cost around 400.00, and your lucky to get 3, or 4 hp out of it, if any, same with an intake, except the intake may only cost around 250.00. It's cheap hp when you consider what the other stuff cost, and what you get for the money spent.
