I was replacing the o-rings on my turbo and when I took off the turbo I noticed where the exhaust attaches to the inlet side of the turbo it was very loose obviously the gaskets were completely gone, how much power am I losing by this not being there. The turbo looked great the vanes were very sharp and no play at all. Also while I have the Turbo off is there anything I should do before reinstalling it.
I have no idea how much power you've been missing but you've definitely been missing some. I've never had those bolts off but I would assume that some type of lockwasher or similar device would prevent that. Maybe yours are missing or worn. Loctite is good but I doubt it would hold up to the heat.
I would use an anti-sieze on the threads and put new lockwashers or locking tabs on it. I'd bet you'll notice an improvement.
While the turbo is off your mechanical fuel pump will be more accessible than usual. Good time to find and fix any leaky plumbing in that area.
Also if you've considered installing a pyrometer now would be a good time to drill the manifold so the shavings don't get in the turbo. Even if you don't install it now, you can drill it and plug it until you need it.
The bad part is that if your up-pipe donuts are bad its a good possiblity that your pipes are worn and new donuts wont seal it up. I'd give it a try though. If you wanna fix it right though you'll need new up-pipes.
Yep up pipes were bad, I also had to replace rubber boot on intake side of turbo, I replaced with ford upgrade kit it comes with brace and new rubber material. Hopefully this will fix all of my problems unfortunately they had the turbo back on before I could drill it for the pyro that really sucks. I will let you know how much power I have back now that everything is back together.
