So I will be driving along with everything fine. Then I will hit "just the right bump" and the entire front end of my truck will start to shake, shimmy, and jolt back and forth, so much that it knocks papers and other stuff off of the front seat. The only way to make it stop is to stop the truck. I've dropped off it to my Ford mechanic, and he can find nothing wrong with it. I've been racking my brain and searching the net, but still can't find anything specific to this year/problem. I did read that it could possibly be the trac bar bushings, but this truck doesn't have a trac bar - it has leaf springs and doesn't need a trac bar.
Everything else on this truck is stock, the tires are fully inflated and not warped, and it is in proper alignment, so I'm stumped as to what the problem is. Any ideas? I've read this is a "death wobble" but what specifically can cause this?
mine does the same thing. The dealer tightened up the steering box. Did not help. I put a Rancho Steering stabilizer on mine day before yesterday. Have not driven it enough yet to see how much it helps.
In the pasture it does help keep the rough ground from jerking my steering wheel so much
There was another similar thread and I replied to that as well. This sounds more like the problem I am having.
I have the same thing happening with my truck right now, after I hit a pothole just the right way with the front passenger, tire the truck will get a severe vibration. I am now getting a on/off clicking sound from that same wheel. It seems to come on with encounters with bumps/potholes in the road.
I am thinking a front wheel bearing is going or already is trashed.
