My '97 has about 83k miles on it and I've done small modifications to the engine like, true dual exhaust, K&N Air filter system, MSD ignition system, and a Jett Performance Chip. I'm looking for other ways to get more power without having to rebuild the whole thing. A suggestion was given to me about installing injectors from a 504 to feed it more gas. Anybody have any suggestions as to where I can go from here to get more power without doing a major rebuild, or replacing the engine? Thanks.
Im in the same boat as you 97 f-350 4x4 auto 7.5, From what ive been reading the exhaust manifolds on our trucks are very restrictive. But hedders are very expensive i think the the BANK'S go for close to 1k. I was thinking of going to a bigger MAF but dont know if any one makes it, As to bigger injectors our trucks have 24# and w/10mpg any bigger would just kill the mpg even more. I hope some of the other members have more ideal's. Seems like you have most of the bolt on's.
I already imagined that bigger injectors would lower mpg. Hech, I'm sure with any more modifications, the mpg will go lower anyway Fortunately, my ’97 F-250 4x4 has now become my secondary truck behind an ’04 crew cab 4x4 diesel so the lower mpg’s won’t bother me as much. I’ve been told that older 460’s don’t have the power they had when they were younger so loss of power may be the nature of the beast? For the longest time, it’s been suggested to me that there isn’t much you can do with a 460 unless you want to drop a lot of money into it. I’m hoping that there is. To bad it’s not as simple as reprogramming a chip like the diesels
Since you have a diesel what MPG do you really get w/it, And what MPG do you get out of your 7.5. I usually get like 9 on the street and like a little over 12 on the hwy going 70mph@ 2100rpms But i have 35 12.50's and 4.10s let us know the truth behind the diesel mpg increase. Also im thinking of getting a chip did you feel any SOTP difference w/the jet let me know.
My first modifications with the 460 was putting the true duel exhast. Shortly after that, like within a few weeks, I installed the K&N air filter system. I couldn't wait to tow my camper with it to see what increase it had. It actually struggled more while towing. I was shocked. I spoke with a pro shop and bought a Jett performance chip. I didn't have time to install it before I took my camper to Dover for the Spring race. The poor thing had a worse time than ever before towing the camper to Dover. While there, I installed the chip. I had to follow the instruction for the '96 truck because the instruction for the '97 (which mine is titled as such) did not match up. However, I got the chip installed and it brought life back into the 460. Without towing, my last check on fuel mileage after the mods was 11.5 mpg. It got about 6 while towing. In my diesel, the computer tells me I'm getting about 17-18 mph and about 11 when towing. On the 460 truck, I have 33x12.50's and 4.10s. I have not modifide the diesel.
