Edelbrock #1400 ?

Hi

Can anyone tell me why Edelbrock list the #1400 carb for GM vehicles only?

I live in an emissions controlled area, and wish to fit the Performer intake manifold to my '78 460 and go with a new carb. From reading here and researching the Edelbrock site, it seems I have the spreadbore carb (?) which I would need to replace in order to mate with this intake anyway. Since I registered the vehicle with 'Collector' plates here in Colorado, it will not have to go through smog again until I sell it, but I ideally wanted to minimize the amount of work I have to do to once again make it emissions compliant. Maybe I should just disable the EGR system, go with the #1406, and worry about it later.. I've thought about pulling the catalyst anyway.

Since this is my first post, I should probably give some background. This 460 has 30k original miles and sits in a '22 Class-C motorhome. It is driven entirely at high altitude (>5,500 ft), and I'm currently averaging around 5mpg. I'm essentially performing a 'tune up' in the hopes of picking up 1 or 2mpg, and in addition to replacing fluids, ignition components, etc. it seemed like the intake and carb could help.

Thanks!

You can by an adapter for the ford kickdown. I talked to one of the Edelbrock engineers several years ago about getting acceptance for Fords. His answer was, "It costs a bloody fortune to get CARB acceptance for each specific vehicle, and they don't feel there is enough demand for Fords to justify the cost." Whether true or not this was his reply to me.
