I work in the oilfield............So my wife/sgtmaj/organizer of my life went on a quest to find a house to rent. She did so, said it was awesome, and, being male, took her word for it.............
Well moving day came, and I watched the movers efficiently move everything out of my house on a tuesday, promiseing to have it there by wednsday..............
We got there on tuesday, and I got to lay eyes on this place for the first time...........OMFG! It wasn't moved out of............it was abandoned in place. It was filthy, picture hooks still in the walls, and the downstairs (Where the master bedroom was) REEKED. I got checking around, and there was mould on the sheetrock of the master bedroom, phone jacks hanging out of the walls, where they had run the cable for TV (Of COURSE they did it themselves) it looked like the master plan had been done by Chef Boy Ar Dee, and in one room it looked like they just kicked a hole in the wall to get the cable though...........
So I start tallying up what it's going to cost me to fix this dump so humans can live in it..........It got to the point where I figured it would cost me about 2K to make this place habitable. My rent was only 1100 a month.
Well the movers showed up on wednesday, and efficiently unloaded. My wife/sajmaj/organizer of my life and I were basicly argueing about staying in the place. She wanted to stay (because she picked it out) I was wanting to leave because I wasn't ABOUT to pay somebody for the privlige of remodeling their house for them. We finally agreed on what we were going to hit them for (2 months free rent), to recoup for our incoming losses, and she went to take a shower.
THEN THE WHEELS FELL OFF............
She came smoking out of the shower, and said "You're right. We're out of here". Now, the admission that a MALE could be right, from a FEMALE, no less, were EXTREMELY troubleing to say the least, so I asked her what was going on. Well one thing we didn't see was a crack in the guest bathroom bathtup upstairs, and the floor had started rotting out under the upstairs bathtub. She hit a soft spot and thought she was going through the floor. That was the end of THAT. We called the real estate agent, got our deposit and our money back, I got all my freinds and cousins organized, and we got our stuff out of there and in storage (Luckily there was a brand new storage facility less than 1/2 a mile down the road). and got out.I took her, the dog, the cat and found a motel, and started the quest for habitable living spaces. This was on the 28th of June......
We looked till the 2nd of July. Nothing. At all. Fourth of July weekend was looming, motel rooms (especially that took pets) was getting scarce, and tensions were running high. Finally I started toying with the idea of actually BUYING a place...............The wife/sajmaj/organizer of my life agreed.......AGAIN............I was afraid.........VERY afraid..........
On the third, we went looking for a place with my Aunt, who is a real estate agent. It took us four days to find a place, and arrange financeing. We take delivery on the 25th of this month............
You know how Ron White says
"Diamonds: That will shut 'em up.......for a while"
Well thats not entirely correct. Whats actually CORRECT is
"Houses: THAT will shut 'em up.....for a while"

We went to the post office to get our mail held, and found out they left no forwarding address. Our theory is that they knew the place was a wreck, moved out and hauled butt to California, with the intentions of taking our rent and not making the house payment. End result? We'd be there for a month or two, then wake to the sound of a banker nailing a foreclosure notice to the door and get evicted.........
I have a freind in New Zealand. He has a saying about such things.....
"Not bloody likely, mate"

Now that's class. LOL! After ten years plus of homeownership, I find myself renting for the first time in a long time. So far, so good tho. I've been in the place for three months and have only had to call the landlord once. He was there in less than an hour. No issues yet.
Glad you were able to escape.
