Done, gone, goodbyeeee......Tree hugging pain in the neck. The EGR is welded shut, modified the up-pipe and capped off the EGR cooler. Truck runs better than new.
I think Matt is....
I was loosing boost through my EGR valve. Finally had enough time and tore into it. I definitely feel for any technician that has to work on one of these things for a living.....going postal might be replaced by mechanical rage....
I have noticed that I no longer smell exhaust while backing up since disconnecting the EGR. Have you experienced this or is a just a good thing that has happened to me? Also how much boost were you loosing through the EGR?
The EGR was not closing all the way and was forced open by the boost. Welded shut it has no leak and will not open. With the cooler capped off, no chance of any leak if you choose not to weld your EGR. I would loose 8lbs when it forced the EGR open.

ok im confused, so your saying with you egr unplugged or turned off, that the boost alone was causing the valve to open which inturn caused you to lose boost. Or am i just confused
I planned on unplugging mine this weekend but if it is still going to allow the valve to be forced open then whats the point.
I couldn't answer that, I wanted to get rid of the rapid heat transfer the EGR cooler creates and found my EGR to be more of a problem than I originally thought.
I was under the impression that the egr also replaces a wastegate (even when disconnected) by it's ability to crack open to relieve excess pressure. I thought it was a necessary item??? Someone please correct me if I am wrong as this welding idea sounds like a good one.
I am not claiming to be knowledgeable in the more complexed workings of diesels but this is what I was told by a Ford diesel tech when I asked him where the waste gate wason my 05.

BTW i disconnected the cable to my egr today and i noticed the idle jumping. and didn't want to stay steady. it seemed to go away after a short trip. what's your take on that?
